Notes on a Catholic Church scandal (Part III of III)

(Continued from n.o.a.c.s. part II)

What I mean is, that God has commanded us to be fruitful and multiply, the exception to this command is celibacy for the sake of sanctification (the act of setting ones selves aside in servicing the Lord).

So why is it that many priests have participated in the act of sexual abuse with such great care given to the offense? Rebuking His disciples Jesus said “if anyone causes one of these little ones who believes in me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”

The idea of celibacy is not all together a wrong Idea. Though the bible explains that a priest is to be the husband of one wife and further explains the responsibility for each position of authority within the church. Many characters of the bible remained sanctified, some left houses, families, jobs to follow Jesus.

Paul told those who followed Jesus that it was better to marry than to burn with passion. And with this in mind I think there is much to be said about calling your self celibate. If you can not control your sexual desires in setting your self apart then maybe it is time to rethink the entire strategy and follows Gods first command to be fruitful.

Say what you will, God did not intend for priests to abuse their rights and power for self gratification at the expense of others– speaking to the Pharisee Jesus said “Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven” and “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.”

The only question that seems to remain is who are they really serving and what must they be thinking?
